GNOME Enhances Wayland Support, Boosts Tablet Compatibility

The code base of Gnome Shell and the composite manager Mutter accepted changes that amplify the assembly without x11 support, only leaving components for Wayland. This change was part of the initiatives developed over the last two years to transfer optional dependencies, allowing Mutter to be assembled solely as a Wayland composite server without bindings to x11. The details of this update can be found here.

Furthermore, changes have been prepared for GNOME 47 to improve support for graphic tablets. The updates include enhanced capabilities for tablet calibration, such as the addition of manual calibration options in cases where automatic binding to the monitor is not possible. The GNOME configurator now ensures display compatibility, which was not supported in Libwacom. Tablets are now processed and displayed as typical devices with common basic settings. The configurator has unified the naming of displays and tablet binding settings for improved user experience. Read more about these changes here.
