Miracle-WM 0.3 Released, Wayland and MIR Composite Manager

Matthew Kosarek from Canonical has recently announced the release of a new composite manager called Miracle-WM 0.3 that utilizes the Wayland Protocol and components for building composite managers like mir. Miracle-WM supports the mosaic (tiling) layout of windows, similar to the window managers i3 and SWAY, and can be used with the waybar panel. The project is coded in C++ and is available under the GPLV3 license. Ready-to-use assemblies can be found in the snap format.

The goal of Miracle-WM is to create a composite server that offers mosaic window control with enhanced functionality and style compared to other projects like swayfx. It aims to provide users who prefer a mosaic layout with visual effects, vibrant graphics, smooth transitions, and colors. To install Miracle-WM, users can use the command “sudo snap install miracle-wm-classic”.

Updates in version 0.3 include:

  • Support for animation effects during window opening, closing, moving, and when switching between virtual desktops.
  • Visual highlighting of active windows with the ability to display a colored frame around each active window.
  • Enhanced support for the IPC protocol with added commands for
/Reports, release notes, official announcements.
