The Free Software Foundation announced an increase in the number of board members from 6 to 9, who serve as the supervisory and advisory body helping to achieve the fund’s goals and long-term strategy. The board also monitors the activities of the president and executive director. Three new members were selected from 83 candidates after a three-month test period before final approval.
The newly appointed board members include:
- John Gilmore – a co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and creator of various software projects such as Cygnus Solutions, Cypherpunks mailing list, and the ALT.*. He is also known for his contributions to the DHCP protocol, Cygwin, GNU projects, and more.
- Christina Haralnova – an activist for social justice and women’s rights, who promotes the importance of free software. She is the founder of Women’s Information Technologies Transfer (Witt) and a director at the Bulgarian Center for Protection of Internet Rights. She is also a member of the Free Software Association Bulgaria.
- Maria Chiara Peevatolo – a professor of political philosophy at the University of Pisan in Italy, known for her efforts in building an open scientific environment. She is the creator of the Italian journal of humanitarian and social sciences and the president/co-founder of the Italian association for open science (aisa).
