Vivaldi has rolled out its latest browser version, Vivaldi 6.8, which is built on the Chromium engine. The browser is available for Linux, Windows, and macOS platforms. While the changes made to the Chromium code base are distributed under an open license, the browser interface itself is written in JavaScript using various technologies under a proprietary license.
Developed by former Opera Presto developers, Vivaldi aims to create a customizable and functional browser that prioritizes user privacy. Key features include ad and tracker blockers, note and bookmark managers, private browsing mode, end-to-end encrypted synchronization, tab grouping, side panel, extensive configurator, horizontal tab display mode, and integrated email client, RSS reader, and calendar in testing mode.
The latest version of Vivaldi focuses on enhancing the built-in email client, which has been upgraded to version 2.0. Notable innovations in the email client include pre-loading of messages for offline access, a quick reply field for responding to emails without switching tabs, and the ability to undo up to 200 previous actions like moving emails to the trash or marking them as read.
