SUSE to Support CentOS 7 and SUSE Linux 15 Until 2028 and 2037

SUSE Extends Support for SUSE LIBERTY Linux Lite on CentOS 7

SUSE recently made an announcement regarding the provision of extended support for SUSE LIBERTY Linux Lite on CentOS 7. This means that users have the option to switch to using SUSE Liberty Linux repositories, with updates and technical support being provided until June 30, 2028. The service is priced at $2500 per year for 100 subscriptions or $20,000 per year for 1000 subscriptions. It is important to note that the support for CentOS 7 will expire on June 30, 2024, after which updates to eliminate vulnerabilities will no longer be available.

Furthermore, an extension of the distribution time for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server has also been announced. Corrections for the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 branch will continue to be produced until 2037. Plans are in place to create a new SUSE Linux branch next year, based on the ALP platform (Adaptable Linux Platform). This new branch will feature a separation of the distribution’s base into two parts: the “Host OS” for hardware compatibility and a layer specifically designed to support applications running in containers and virtual machines.

When it comes to other distributions, Red Hat Enterprise Linux offers a 14-year support window (10 years + 4 years of additional paid service), Ubuntu provides 12 years of support (5 years + 7 years of additional paid service), Debian GNU/Linux has a support period of 10 years (5 years LTS + 5 years Extended LTS), OpenSUSE offers support for 18 months, and Fedora Linux offers support for 13 months.
