Linux Frees from Internet: Endless OS for Learning, Creativity

The new version Endless OS is now available for free download. This operating system comes with all the necessary tools pre-installed, allowing users to start working without needing an internet connection. Upon installation, users have access to tools such as Endless Key for research and education, Libreoffice, Chromium web browser, Decibels audio player, Videos video player, and more.

Endless OS sets itself apart from other Linux-based operating systems by being unchanged and OSTREE-controlled, meaning applications cannot be installed in the traditional manner. This unique feature enhances security by allowing applications to be installed solely through the Software store, providing protection against malicious software and system alterations.

One minor drawback is the requirement of an internet connection for utilizing Endless Key, a tool for learning through video tutorials. Users need to download packages for each of the three categories – “artist”, “scientist”, or “researcher” to access the full capabilities of the tool. Once downloaded, an internet connection is no longer necessary.

Aside from Endless Key, Endless OS includes standard programs like the Libreoffice Office Pack, Chromium web browser, Decibels audio player, and Videos video player. The operating system boasts an intuitive interface suitable for beginners, with applications displayed as icons on the desktop rather than the traditional menu. This interface resembles the GNOME Application Overview used as the primary working environment, featuring a horizontally scrolling list of applications, search bar, and launch panel.

The design of Endless OS mirrors a mobile interface adapted for desktop use, making it user-friendly for those familiar with Android or iOS. For individuals looking to transition from Windows to a more secure and reliable operating system without the fear of complexity, Endless OS presents a viable option.
