MASSIVE PRODUCTION OF SOLARIS 11.4 SRU69 OS

Oracle Solaris 11.4 SRU 44 (Support Repository Update) has introduced a series of significant changes and improvements for the Solaris 11.4 branch. To install the updates provided in the release, users can simply execute the ‘PKG Update’ command. Additionally, users can benefit from the free edition of Solaris 11.4 CBE (Common Build Environment), which follows a model of continuous publication of new versions.

The latest update includes the following changes:

  • The desktop environment has been updated to GNOME 45 with cosmetic interface changes, such as replacing the “Activities” indicator on the desktop with the virtual desktop indicator.
  • The MDNS protocol (Multicast DNS/Zeroconf) implementation has been replaced by the Avahi 0.8 package, moving away from the previously used Solaris port on Apple Bonjour.
  • The System environment for Python has been marked as independently controlled (PEP 668), restricting the use of tools like PIP to install additional Python packages. It is recommended to use the PIPX utility for this purpose.
  • Support for system calls preadv() and pwritev() for reading and writing data using multiple buffers has been added.
  • The SSH server settings can now be configured with separate files in /etc/SSH/SSHD_config.d/*.conf.
  • A new property “Retention.period.deletegrace” has been added to the ZFS file system, allowing users to set a delay for the actual deletion of expired files.
  • The ZVOL URI now supports indicating the optional Lofi layer, enabling non-global isolated zones to be placed on top of ZVOL sections.
  • Added support for updating information about attachments (MAPS) in the Autofs Service, eliminating the need for manual service restarts when adding new resources.
  • NFSv4 server now supports advanced system attributes such as CreateTime, Archive, System, Hidden, and RetentionTime.
  • The IPADM tool
