The Nitrux project has recently published the release of their distribution, Nitrux 3.5.0. This distribution is built on the package base of Debian, KDE technologies, and the initialization system openrc. Nitrux offers its own desktop, nx desktop, which is a superstructure over KDE Plasma. The distribution is based on the library maui and is developing typical user applications that can be used on both desktop systems and mobile devices. Additional applications can be installed using a system of self-sufficient Appimages packages. The full loading image size is 4.6 GB, and the projects are distributed under free licenses.
The NX Desktop desktop features a unique design style, its own system tray implementation, a notification output center, and various plasmoids. These include a configurator of network connections, a multimedia applet for regulating volume and controlling multimedia playback, and applications like the Index file manager, Note text editor, Station terminal emulator, VVAVE Musical player, CLIP video player, NX Software Center application control center, and PIX Viewer.
Key innovations in Nitrux 3.5.0 include the default use of the Linux kernel 6.8.12 with the liquorix patch, updated versions of packages such as Mesa 24.1.0, Firefox 126.0.1, nuts 2.1.4 (Nitrux update Tool System), Xwayland 24.1.0, and Distrobox 1.7.2.1. The user environment of the NX Desktop continues to utilize KDE Plasma 5.27.11, KDE Frameworks 5.115, and QT 5.15.13. Nitrux plans to transition to the Maui Shell shell that supports Qt6 by the end of the year. Proprietary NVIDIA drivers have been updated to version 555.42.02, and the VULKAN Diver for AMD GPUs is involved.
- AMD and Intel processors have been updated, and new firmware for various drivers has been added to the Linux-Firmware package.
- Until version 3.1.0, Nitrux will continue to use the KDE Plasma platform.
