Kaspersky Releases Free Linux Malware Scanner

Kaspersky Introduces KVRT Application for Linux System Security

Kaspersky laboratory has launched the KVRT application, aimed at scanning Linux systems for threats and malicious applications. The application is designed to detect viruses, backdoors, trojans, advertising and espionage applications, as well as potential attackers against the system. In addition to file scanning, KVRT also checks memory and loading sectors. It offers both console and graphic modes of operation, and can be started without Root rights, although functionality may be limited in this mode. During the scanning process, telemetry data on detected malicious software is sent to the KSN servers (Kaspersky Security Network) for analysis.

The scanner is designed as a universal self-sufficient application and is compatible with 64-bit environments based on various distributions including Almalinux OS 8+, Alteros 7.5+, Astra Linux Common 2.12+, and many more. The program is distributed for free and the executable file size for download is 175 MB. It is important to note that automatic updates of antivirus bases in KVRT are not supported, therefore users will need to download new versions regularly to ensure they have the most up-to-date antivirus data.
