The release of the distribution Rocky Linux 8.10 has been officially presented, with the goal of providing a free alternative to RHEL and filling the void left by the discontinuation of CentOS 8 support by Red Hat at the end of 2021. The latest version of Rocky Linux is available for download on x86_64 and Aarch64 architectures, as well as tailored builds for various cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud, AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, along with container and virtual machine images in different formats.
Similar to the traditional CentOS, Rocky Linux adheres to compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10 while distancing itself from the Red Hat branding. The distribution includes updates like GCC Toolset 13, LLVM Toolset 17.0.6, Rust Toolset 1.75.0, and various other software versions. Rocky Linux 8.10 marks the final individual release in the 8.x branch, with ongoing security updates and bug fixes being provided without separate distribution releases for version 8.11.
Notable changes in Rocky Linux include the provision of additional repositories, including plus with Open-vm package-tools, nfv for network virtualization, real-time packages, powertools, Resilientstorage, and Highavailability. Additionally, AWS images now support downloading in subnets with IPv6 connectivity.
