NetworkManager 1.48.0 has been released, presenting a stable release of the interface aimed at simplifying the setting of network parameters. The release also includes plugins to support VPN, such as Libreswan, OpenConnect, Openswan, and SSTP, developed as part of their own development cycles.
The main innovations in NetworkManager 1.48.0 include:
- An outdated assembly system based on the Autotools package has been replaced, with the recommendation to use Meson tools for assembly of NetworkManager.
- The property Mac-Address-BlackList has been deprecated, and users are now advised to use the Mac-Address-Denylist property to determine the blacklist of MAC addresses for wire and wireless networks.
- A new property, 802-1x.openssl-ciphers, has been added to change the OpenSSL ciphers used in 802.1x authentication, enabling users to disable certain ciphers when connecting to older servers.
- Support for IPV6 SLAAC (Stateless Address Auto-Configuration) and the setting of the IPV6 address of the DNS server for broadband modems has been added in cases where the IPV6 address was not clearly handed over by Modemanager.
- The addition of support for sending the Release DHCP message in case of a connection break.
- A resolution to the issue causing 100% CPU load in the case of external programs updating a large number of routes.
- The problem with determining support by wireless devices of the 6 GHz range has been resolved.
