Microsoft announced the launch of a new line of laptops under the Copilot Plus PCS brand, which will be equipped with built -in hardware to support artificial intelligence (AI) functions in the Windows operating system.
All main partners in Microsoft for the production of laptops, including Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Acer and ASUS, will offer Copilot Plus PCS models. About this said General Director of Microsoft, Satia Nadella at the headquarters, held at the headquarters The company’s apartment on Monday. Microsoft also introduced two of the Surface line of her own laptops. In addition, despite considerable attention to ARM processors for Windows laptops, according to Nadalla, laptops with Intel and AMD chips will also support these AI-functions.
The basis for the new capabilities of AI will be a neuroprocessor built into laptops. One of the key functions will be “recall”, which uses AI to create a “photographic memory” available to search for everything that happened on the computer. Laptops will work with more than 40 and models in Windows 11 to provide these new functions. Built-in II Assistant Microsoft, Copilot, will also receive support for the GPT-4O model from Openai, presented last week.
Yusuf Mehdi, the head of the Windows unit in Microsoft, said that new laptops will be 58 percent faster than the MacBook Air with the M3 processor and provide “all day” of the battery. However, Mehdi did not specify whether this would be true for all Copilot Plus PC laptops or only for models with Qualcomm processors based on ARM. Microsoft expects that next year, 50 million laptops will be sold under the Copilot PC brand.
The Copilot Plus PCS will require at least 16 GB of RAM, 256 GB of SSD and the presence of a neuroprocessor (NPU). Models based on ARM with Qualcomm chips will be able to operate up to 15 hours during web surfing.
Microsoft positions these devices as the beginning of a new era for laptops on Windows. The transition to ARM chips that the company had not previously succeeded can significantly increase the battery life of laptops on Windows. The new AI functions are designed to work on various hardware platforms, which relies on unverified equipment and software, but with the potential for transformation.
“Today is a special day. We can rethink the platform that nourishes our work and hobbies … in the new PC category,” said Mehdi at the event.
The first Copilot Plus PCS laptops will go on sale on June 18 and will use Qualcomm processors. Models with Intel and AMD processors will appear later.
