Distant Network Security Toolkit 40 Released

In their latest update, the Live-Distribution NST 40 (Network Security Toolkit) has been released, aimed at analyzing network security and monitoring its operations. The loading ISO-image (x86_64) size is 5 GB. A special repository has been created for Fedora Linux users to install systems developed within the NST project. This distribution is based on Fedora and allows for the installation of additional packages from compatible external repositories.

The distribution comes equipped with a wide range of applications related to network security such as Wireshark, NTOP, NESSUS, SNORT, Nmap, kismet, tcptrack, etherape, nsttracroute, ettercap, and more. To manage security and automate calls to various utilities, a Web interface has been integrated along with a Web-Frontend for the WireShark network analyzer. The graphic environment of the distribution is built on FLUXBOX.

In the latest version:

  • The package base has been synchronized with Fedora 40 and involves the Linux 6.8 core.
  • Updates have been made to the latest applications included.
  • The capabilities of the NST WUI Web interface have been expanded.
  • The inclusion of the application Portainer for managing Docker containers.
  • A new feature allows for launching a Docker container from SpiderFoot, an OSINT (Open-source Intelligence) tool that analyzes over 100 open data sources to gather additional information about IP addresses, domain names, emails, and other data.
  • Added support for a Docker container with Metasploit tools for developing and launching exploits against external systems.
