Phosh 0.39 Update, Gnome-Crimement for Smartphones

Phosh 0.39 has been released, marking a significant update to the screen shell for mobile devices based on GNOME technology and the GTK library. Originally developed by Purism as an analogue of GNOME Shell for the Librem 5 smartphone, Phosh has since become one of the unofficial GNOME projects and is utilized in Postmarketos, Mobian, some Pine64 device firmware, and smartphone editorial offices. Phosh utilizes the composite server phoc, which operates on top of Wayland, as well as its own screen keyboard. The projects of the Phosh project are distributed under the GPLv3+ license.

In the new release:

  • In review mode, the ability to organize applications into folders has been added.
  • Support for enabling night mode through the quick settings dropdown panel has been included.
  • The truncation in the center of long words when holding the power button to access the menu has been removed, addressing issues in Russian localization where words were displayed incorrectly.
  • The composite server phoc now features an animation for windows located on top of others (always-on-top).
  • The screen keyboard squeekboard introduces new button styles: Change-View, Character-Group,
/Reports, release notes, official announcements.
