Improvements to KDE Apps in GNOME and XFCE

Nate Graham, a developer engaged in quality control in the KDE project, published the latest report on the development of KDE. One of the significant changes was the initiative to address issues with icons when launching KDE Gear applications in various environments such as Gnome and XFCE. The problem arises from using icons from the overall Breeze theme in KDE applications, which may not sync correctly in third-party environments, causing visual glitches and missing icons.

To address this issue, KDE applications designed for KDE Plasma environments will now have the functionality to embed the Breeze icon style by default, with the option for system or user customization. Projects like Kate, Konsole, and Dolphin are already planning to implement this new feature. Discussions are also underway to find a similar solution for running GNOME applications in KDE, which involves developers from Gnome.

Other improvements include:

  • The Dolphin file manager now supports displaying previews for directories on remote storage.

  • Improved warning messages in Dolphin when activating Root mode, reminding users
/Reports, release notes, official announcements.
