XPRA 6.0 Released for Wayland Integration

XPRA 6.0 Release

The project XPRA has recently published version 6.0, which aims to provide a screen and tmux-like experience for working with graphic applications. This tool allows users to launch X11-applications on either a local or remote system, disconnect the session without closing the programs, and resume working with the applications later. Users can also switch to another host and continue working seamlessly. For example, users can launch a graphic application on a remote Linux server and display it on the screen of a local workstation running Linux, Windows, or MacOS. The project is developed in Python and distributed under the GPLv2+ license. The code can be found on GitHub.

Users can connect to existing desktop sessions and create new sessions for running graphic Linux programs in Windows and MacOS environments. Additionally, XPRA includes an html5-client that allows users to connect to sessions via a web browser. Apart from window access, XPRA also supports features such as sound broadcasting, printer and webcam access, clipboard synchronization, system tray support, notifications, and file transfers and synchronization between systems.

With the release of XPRA 6.0, new features include support for the RISCV64 architecture, transition to the use of the base OpenGL profile, addition of a separate client for GNOME, implementation of the XPRA Configure command to simplify GStreamer parameter setup, accelerated MMAP operations, streamlined disconnection procedures, advanced sound and video broadcasting capabilities, and support for Windows 10 virtual desktop.
