In September 2023, security researchers pointed out several signs indicating that this hack was used to steal more than $35 million from cryptocurrency wallets of more than 150 victims. In particular, the abducted Sid Frases – the digital keys necessary for access to investment in cryptocurrencies were precisely stored in Lastpass.
In January, the company began to demand from new and existing customers dropping passwords to install a master palette of at least 12 characters. This is considered an industry minimum to ensure worthy security. Earlier, Lastpass, by default, offered 12 characters but allowed to install shorter passwords.
In response to criticism and attempts to restore trust, Lastpass announced the creation of a specialized group of threats intelligence last year. New leaders were recently invited to the team including former vice president McAfee.
Nevertheless, Karim Tubba, who was at the helm while disclosing information about the hacking of 2022, is still leading the company. It seems that Lastpass has a lot of work to earn user trust again.
