The project libreelec 12.0 has been released, a fork distribution focused on creating home cinemas developed as an alternative to openelec. Utilizing the KODI media center as its user interface, images for USB drives or SD cards are available for download for various devices including x86, Raspberry Pi 2/3/4/5, and chips like Rockchip, Allwinner, NXP, and Amlogic. The assembly for x86_64 architecture is 247 Mb in size and can be accessed here.
Libreelec allows users to transform any computer into a media center as easy to use as a DVD player or television. The distribution emphasizes the principle of “everything just works”, providing a hassle-free environment ready for use upon loading from a Flash drive. With automatic updates and a dedicated repository for add-ons, users can enjoy a system that requires minimal maintenance.
Not relying on other distribution package bases, Libreelec focuses on its own developments. In addition to the standard features of KODI, the distribution offers various enhancements such as network configuration tools, LCD screen parameter control, and options for remote control via infrared or Bluetooth. With built-in features like a Samba server, Bittorrent Transmission, and support for file sharing, Libreelec excels in streamlining multimedia experiences.
