Google has fired a portion of its employees who were involved in the Flutter and Dart projects, as well as a team working on developments related to the Python programming language. The decision to reduce personnel is attributed to a reorganization aimed at optimizing processes, redistributing duties, and eliminating bureaucracy and unnecessary links. The entire Python team was let go and will be replaced by a new team based in Munich, as explained in a social media post.
The move to shift Python-related work to Germany is expected to lower development costs by hiring less expensive labor. The American Python team at Google consisted of fewer than 10 developers who oversaw the Python Ecosystem within the Google ecosystem. Their responsibilities included ensuring Python stability, updating third-party packages for Python, and developing tools for type checking. While the exact number of employees affected by the layoffs has not been disclosed, a filing in California indicates that around 60 people will be let go from Google’s Sanvenes office.
