The instability of the chips, which has been noted in various gaming applications, is linked to excessive power and heat profiles.
To address these issues, motherboard manufacturers are rolling out solutions such as the new BIOS “Intel Baseline,” already available from ASUS and Gigabyte, as well as BIOS management from MSI. Other manufacturers are also expected to release their updates. However, implementing these settings may result in a 15% decrease in performance in multitasking applications and games to ensure enhanced stability.
Intel is cautioning that many problematic scenarios stem from using specialized motherboards with advanced capabilities for overclocking processors. These unlocked configurations often disregard energy consumption limits set by the manufacturer, opting for maximum, highly risky values. Furthermore, these configurations frequently disable vital protective mechanisms against overheating and critical voltage changes. In light of this, Intel is urging computer system and motherboard manufacturers to strictly adhere to the company’s recommendations when configuring BIOS settings, providing users with inherently safe configurations out of the box.
Additionally, Intel is urging the implementation of mandatory user warnings regarding the serious risks associated with using processor overclocking functions on unlocked motherboards. The company also underscores the necessity of conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify the root causes of the observed problems. An official open statement from Intel is anticipated in May 2024 to outline the corporation’s plans for resolving the situation.
