Tinkoff Bank has recently rolled out a new pilot project known as Frod-Ruletka in a bid to combat telephone scammers. In an official announcement, the financial institution revealed that this initiative involves a system where randomly connected users will act as decoy victims to thwart fraudulent activities.
The concept behind the Frod-Ruletka project is to have informed participants from the program engage with scammers instead of genuine victims. Tinkoff Bank representatives described the idea as “hunting for scammers by turning the prey into the predator.” Program participants will have the opportunity to interact with these criminals over the phone, with the scammers being unaware that they are being deceived, assuming the volunteers are potential targets.
During the initial phase, the project is seeking individuals with a background in pranks and those unafraid of engaging with scammers directly. The specifics of how the system will detect scam calls and differentiate them from legitimate calls remain undisclosed. Additionally, Tinkoff Bank has not revealed detailed information regarding the timeline and mechanisms for the full-scale integration of Frod-Ruletka. The decision to launch and expand the service will be contingent on the outcome of the testing phase, given the substantial technical groundwork that needs to be completed, according to Tinkoff.
