The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation has announced plans to create a consortium dedicated to addressing information security issues related to artificial intelligence. The consortium’s official launch is set for May of this year.
Deputy Minister Alexander Shoitov revealed that the consortium will be established in collaboration with three prominent organizations: the Cryptography Academy, the Institute of System Programming of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the National Coordination Center for Computer Incidents. “This month we plan to create a consortium for studying information security of artificial intelligence based on three organizations. We will announce in more detail on May 27,” said Shoitov during the Data Fusion conference.
During the plenary session “Artificial intelligence – the main technology of the XXI century” at the exhibition-forum “Russia”, Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov announced that Russia has entered the top 10 countries in terms of total computing power utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).
Reshetnikov highlighted that the overall level of AI implementation in key sectors of the Russian economy has reached 31.5%. Over the past two years, the utilization of AI technology, including in areas such as medicine and transport, has increased by one and a half times. Additionally, Russia is ranked fourth globally in the number of generative models of artificial intelligence.
The government of Russia has formulated the National Development Strategy of AI, aimed at positioning the country as a leader in AI technology by 2030. The strategy is expected to facilitate widespread adoption and integration of AI across various industries. By achieving 95% implementation of AI in organizations by 2030, it is projected to contribute to an increase in GDP by 11.2 trillion rubles, with businesses and the government collectively investing up to 850 billion rubles in AI technologies.
