Russia to Develop Domestic Gaming Industry Following Presidential Instructions
Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a series of instructions following a meeting in January discussing the socio-economic development of the Kaliningrad region.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the government has been tasked to consider the organization of stationary and portable gaming consoles in Russia by June 15, 2024. Additionally, they are to explore the possibility of creating a domestic operating system and a cloud platform for software delivery to users.
“President Putin’s instructions for the production of domestic gaming consoles and video games are aimed at establishing a homegrown game industry in Russia,” said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the president. This initiative expands beyond just creating a local version of popular games like the FIFA football simulator.
In February, during a visit to Kazan for the games of the future, President Putin was introduced to the concept of developing a Russian alternative to the FIFA football simulator. He expressed his intention to discuss the implementation of this idea with Alexei Miller, the head of Gazprom.
Prior reports indicate that a comprehensive plan for the development of the video game industry, featuring 83 different initiatives covering education, exports, and technology, will be presented to the government for approval.
