After a year and a half of development, Widlands has announced the release of their free game Widlands 1.2. Combining elements of real-time strategy (RTS) and urban planning simulation, the game is inspired by the popular game settlers II. Widlands 1.2 supports both multiplayer mode and single-user campaigns against computer-controlled opponents. The project is coded in C++ and LUA, utilizing the SDL framework and licensed under GPLV2. The game is available for Linux, Windows, and macOS platforms.
Among the updates in Widlands 1.2 are:

- Introduced preliminary support for sea battles, allowing players to use fleets for coastal invasions.
