Snap Store Catalog Shifts to Manual Review for New Packet Names

After numerous incidents involving the placement of malicious applications in the Snap Store catalog, impersonating official customers of popular cryptocurrency wallets, Canonical has announced a new policy. The company has decided to implement manual reviews of all new packages submitted to the SNAP Store for the first time. When registering a new package, developers will be required to fill out a questionnaire regarding the purpose and source of the assembly.

Account activation will only occur after a manual review of the application is conducted to identify any suspicious names that may be impersonating well-known projects. This review process is expected to take up to two working days. Names associated with cryptocurrencies and certain critical types of applications will be prohibited. Separate procedures will be established for registering names of such programs, with detailed rules set to be released in the near future.
