After six months of development presented desktop medium GNOME 46. To quickly assess the capabilities of GNOME 46 proposed specialized live-based installation image, prepared as part of the Gnome OS initiative. GNOME 46 is also already included in the experimental assemblies Ubuntu 24.04 and Fedora 40.
In new issue:
- A global search function caused using the Ctrl+Shift+F keyboard combination or through the new “Search” button in the file manager. The function allows you to simultaneously search in several places that are predetermined in the settings (in addition to the home catalog, you can specify other catalogs for the search), as well as use previously accessible opportunities for finding the contents of files and filtering files by type and date of the last change.
- In the file manager of Nautilus (Gnome Files), significant code refactoring was performed and performance optimization was performed. The problem with the progressive drawing on the screen has been solved – the contents of the window are now updated instantly. A new indicator of progress of long-term operations has been added to the lower part of the side panel, which allows you to track the work in the context of individual operations and immediately see which operations are still performed and which are already completed.
The possibility of searching for a search is added to the settings of the file manager and the option is offered to show more detailed information about the date and time.
