In the Linux 6.7 Bcachefs filesystem, a fairly serious error in the logic has been discovered. This error occurs in configurations with several storage devices when using new versions of instruments to create the filesystem. The issue arises when attempting to update the version of the Federal Assembly and encountering a situation where the update is not completed. Subsequently, the core may attempt to revert the filesystem version to an older one, leading to potential destruction of the filesystem.
All BCACHEFS users utilizing more than one device are advised to update to kernel 6.8 as a precautionary measure. The proposed corrections were not integrated into branch 6.7 due to accompanying corrections of various issues being sent as one pull request without being separated into individual patches. Over time, the mechanism of REFSKANFS will be implemented to restructure trees from metadata Inodes, ensuring restoration even in such critical situations.
