The National Bureau of Credit Stories (NBBA) has denied the reports of information leakage from its database that were previously circulated in Russian Telegram channels, as reported by the press service of the TASS information agency.
Following an internal investigation conducted by NBKI, it was confirmed that there was no basis to consider JSC “NKOK” as the source of the alleged data leakage. The press service of the bureau stated that the authors of the reported “leak” intentionally used the well-known brand of NBKI to create hype.
Although NBKI clarified that this does not necessarily mean the information that surfaced is false. The increasing demand for credit products in the retail lending system has led to a rise in the number of organizations such as creditors, brokers, and data aggregators. The information security measures in these organizations do not always meet the required standards, the Bureau reported.
On March 14, the Telegram channel “Information Leaks” published a message claiming an alleged leak of information from NBBA’s database, including personal details of borrowers like passport numbers, dates of birth, and phone numbers, supposedly obtained illegally by hackers.
However, on March 15, the authors of the channel issued a clarification stating that they did not directly link the leaked data to NBKA initially. They mentioned that the reference to the bureau came from the hacker responsible for distributing the data. They suggested that the information may have originated from a certain microfinance organization (MFIs) and likely has no connection to NBKA.
