Linux Desktop Market Share Exceeds 4%, According to Statcounter Data
According to Statcounter data, which monitors the global use of web browsers and the share of desktop operating systems, Linux distributions have first exceeded 4%. The statistics are collected based on a meter posted on 1.5 million sites. It is noteworthy that 8 months ago, Linux desktop usage surpassed the 3% mark and remained stable until November. However, in November, the share of Linux began to gradually increase, reaching 3.22%, 3.83% in December, and 3.77% in January.
Meanwhile, there is a noticeable decline in the popularity of the Chrome OS operating system, with its share decreasing from 4% to 2.26% in 6 months. Taking Chrome OS into account, the total share of desktop Linux systems decreased from 7.23% to 6.29% over the same period. When considering all operating systems, including mobile, Android, which is based on the Linux core, leads with a share of 43.74%, followed by Windows at 27.39%, iOS at 17.82%, MacOS at 5.87%, and Linux at 1.54%.
