The Linux From Scratch community has recently announced the new leaders of the manuals for Linux From Scratch 12.1 (LFS) and Beyond Linux From Scratch 12.1 (BLFS), both available in two versions with either the Sysvinit or Systemd initialization system. Linux From Scratch offers detailed instructions for building a basic Linux system from scratch, using only the original sources of necessary software. Beyond Linux From Scratch complements LFS by providing additional information on building and configuring over 1000 software packages spanning various application areas, from database management systems and server systems to graphical interfaces.
Linux From Scratch 12.1 includes updates to 43 packages, such as Glibc 2.39, Linux 6.7.4, GRUB 2.12, Systemd 255, Sysvinit 3.08, Coreutils 9.4, Binutils 2.42, Openssl 3.2.1, Python 3.12, and more.
The Russian translations of Linux From Scratch 12.1-Sysv and Linux From Scratch 12.1-Systemd have been updated, with improvements including fixed pages in PDF format, the addition of a Multilib version of the translation, extensive text changes for better readability, and an updated packet repository for LFS.
In Beyond Linux From Scratch 12.1, there are 1685 updates, featuring software like GNOME 45, XFCE 4.18.2, KDE Plasma 5.27.10, LibreOffice 24.2.0.3, Thunderbird 115.8.0, Firefox 115.8.0, and more. New additions include QT6, Sysmon-Qt, XDG-Desktop-Portal, Simple-Scan, Snapshot, WirePlumber, Power-Profiles-Daemon, SPIRV, and Vulkan packages. Support for Vulkan drivers for Mesa is also included, along with the announcement of the inclusion of unfinished libraries GTK2 and Python2.
