In the light of the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, leading the IT companies, including Openai and Salesforce, signed open letter, calling for a responsible creation AI.
The letter emphasizes the “collective responsibility” for maximizing the positive aspects of AI and the minimization of risks for society. The initiative launched by the capitalist Ron Convee and his SV Angel has already found a response from dozens of startups and technological companies, including Huging Face and Scale AI.
The reason for such a step was a wide discussion of the capabilities and dangers of AI after the launch of the ChatGPT from Openai, which attracted attention to AI among the general public. Earlier, Sam Altman, General Director of Openai, expressed his fears that AI could lead to the extinction of mankind.
The SV Angel letter compares the influence of AI with such innovations as a printing press, an internal combustion engine, electricity and the Internet, and it is emphasized that the balance of positive and negative consequences for humanity will depend on our actions and a conscious approach.
It is noted that our “collective action” should be directed to maximize the benefits of AI and minimize risks for both modern and future generations. The letter, however, does not specify specific measures to achieve these goals.
The initiative appeared shortly after Elon Musk sued Openai, accusing the startup of departure from his original mission to develop AI for the benefit of all mankind and directed their efforts to pursuit of profit. In the internal memorandum, Openai expressed a categorical disagreement with the accusations of the mask.
