MICROSOFT RENAMES CBL-MARINER IN AZURE LINUX, RELEASES AZURE SPHERE OS 24.03

Microsoft renamed the CBL-Mariner distribution in Azure Linux. Previously, Azure Linux was used for a specialized assembly installed in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), while the general platform for creating distributions was developed under the name CBL-Mariner (Common Base Linux Mariner). Recently, Microsoft renamed the repository cbl-mariner in azurelinux, changed the names of utility, and replaced mentions of CBL-Mariner in the documentation for Azure Linux. Following these changes, the first release of the platform under the new name – Azure Linux 2.0.20240301, was announced, addressing errors and vulnerabilities in applications.

The project aims to unify Linux solutions used by Microsoft and simplify Linux system maintenance for various purposes. The distribution is utilized in cloud infrastructure, EDGE systems, and various Microsoft services. The projects under the project are distributed under the MIT license. Packages are available for architectures Aarch64 and X86_64, and an ISO image (860 MB) is available for architecture x86_64.
