CHROME OS 122 RELEASE

The release of the operating system Chrome OS 122 is now available. Chrome OS 122 is based on the Linux core, UPSTART system manager, EBUILD/Portage, and open components of Chrome 122. Unlike traditional programs, Chrome OS primarily utilizes web applications and offers a full-fledged multi-asset interface, desktop, and taskbar. Source texts for Chrome OS 122 are distributed under the free license Apache 2.0. The assembly of Chrome OS 122 is compatible with the majority of relevant Chromebook models, with Chrome OS Flex available for use on regular computers.

Main changes in Chrome OS 122 include:

  • Added Battery Saver mode, which adjusts screen brightness, keyboard lighting, screen update frequency, and background processes to extend battery life. The mode is activated automatically when the battery charge drops below 20%.

  • The Launcher interface now supports natural language queries processed by a machine learning-based engine. Users can ask for weather forecasts, perform calculations, and translate text in a free-form manner.
  • Users can now edit voice dictation transcriptions on-screen by making adjustments, adding or removing paragraph dividers, muting certain sections, and assigning names to facilitate navigation.
  • Chromebook Plus devices feature dynamic wallpapers that change based on the time of day and selected design mode (light or dark).
