The user environment developers LXQT have announced that the desktop is now 100% ready for use with Wayland. In order to achieve this, changes have been made in the code base of lxqt, specifically in the pcmanfm-qt, which has been modified to use the Layer-shell-QT component. This allows for the seamless functioning of the desktop under Wayland without the need for additional workarounds or compatibility issues with certain composite managers like Labwc.
As it currently stands, LXQT is not dependent on specific composite managers and can work with various options such as Labwc, Wayfire, Kwin_Wayland, Sway, Hyprland, and potentially others based on Wayland. The release of LXQT 2.0, which will be ported to QT 6 and Wayland, is anticipated for April. This new version will introduce a new Fancy Menu applications menu by default, which will categorize applications, offer a consolidated view of all applications, and include a list of frequently used apps.
