On March 9, 2024, Apple has taken steps to block the development of Cryptopro CSP in its AppStore and has revoked the certificate of signature for the product code on MacOS operating systems. Additionally, the latest security updates for MacOS (Sonoma 14.4, Ventura 13.6.5, Montey 12.7.4) now prevent the use of Cryptopro CSP and the Chromium GOST browser.
This blockage implies that users of Apple computers will no longer be able to electronically sign documents using Cryptopro products.
In response, Cryptopro CSP developers have acted swiftly by releasing new guidelines and software distributions to restore access to certificates.
Currently, installation instructions for Cryptopro CSP are available for MacOS, as well as for Chromium GOST and Ngate Client on MacOS. The issue regarding the availability of the iOS application is being worked on, as stated on the Cryptopro website. However, if the iOS application was previously installed, it should continue to function.
Users are advised not to install the March updates for MacOS. If the updates have already been installed, it is recommended to install the Chromium-GOST build for MacOS without the Cryptopro signature and consent to opening the application. Additionally, users should install CSP 5.0.12998, but without a plugin in Safari, and switch to Yandex Browser or Chromium GOST.
The actions taken against Cryptopro’s application are linked to the sanctions imposed by the United States on February 23, 2024, on the company “Crypto-Pro”.
