GE Appliances has introduced a new innovation for its built-in ovens called cookcam ai. This feature utilizes artificial intelligence and a camera inside the oven to identify which dish is being cooked. The system is designed to work in conjunction with the Precision Cooking mode found in most connected models of GE Appliances ovens, including Monogram, Café, GE Profile, and GE models. Users will receive step-by-step instructions for proper device settings via a touch screen or SmartHQ.
Once the dish is placed inside the oven, the camera takes a picture of the interior. Through computer vision and machine learning technologies, the AI system can then identify the specific dish being cooked. The recommended cooking mode is displayed on the screen for confirmation, after which the oven takes control of the cooking process. It autonomously monitors and adjusts temperature and time, alleviating the need for constant supervision by the user.
Initially, Cookcam AI can recognize five types of dishes including turkey, pizza, cookies, muffins, and brownies. GE Appliances plans to expand this list of supported products in the future. While similar product recognition features exist in the market, such as Samsung’s AI Pro Cooking for the Bespoke oven which can identify up to 80 different dishes, GE Appliances’ CookCam AI offers the advantage of being available through a software update rather than requiring a new device purchase.
GE Appliances has announced that the Cookcam AI update will be available for free to users by the end of March, promising enhanced convenience and efficiency in cooking with their connected ovens.
