DietPi 9.1 Single-Pay PC Distribution Update

The release of a specialized distribution Dietpi 9.1 has been published, designed for use on single-pay PCs based on architectures ARM and RISC-V, such as Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, Nanopi, Bananapi, Beaglebone Black, Rock64, Rock Pi, QUARTZ 64, Pine64, ASUS Tinker, Odroid, and Visionfi VE 2. The distribution, built on DEBIAN, is available in assemblies for more than 50 boards. Dietpi can also be used to create a compact environment for virtual machines and conventional PCs based on architecture X86_64. The build assemblies are compact, averaging 130 MB, taking up less drive space compared to Raspberry Pi OS and Armbian.

The project, optimized for minimal resource consumption, features several of its own utilities such as the Dietpi-Software application interface, Dietpi-Config configurator, Dietpi-Backup reserve copying system, Dietpi-Ramlog temporary logs, Dietpi-Services processes installation priorities interface, and the Dietpi-Update update system. These utilities provide a console user interface with a menu and dialogue based on Whiptail, supporting complete automation of installation without user intervention.

In the new version of Dietpi 9.1:

  • Prepared test assemblies for the Raspberry Pi board, now using cores from Debian 12 and a firmware package from the Raspberry Pi project.
  • Added a separate assembly for the board option Rock 4 Se.
  • Added new assemblies for boards nanopi R5S/R5C/R6S/R6C/T6, involving cores and bootloaders using assembly tools from the Armbian project, with a common Ext4 section.
  • Added support for using a password manager Vaultwarden on RISC-V systems.
