Ubuntu 04/22/4 LTS Update Enhances Graphic Stack & Linux Nucleus

Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS Release Updates

The latest distributive renewal of Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS has been announced, bringing improvements in equipment support, updates to the Linux kernel and graphics stacks, fixes to installer and bootloader errors, as well as updates for hundreds of packages to address vulnerabilities and stability issues. Similar updates have been released for Ubuntu Budgie, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu Studio, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Kylin, as well as Xubuntu.

The release notes for Ubuntu 23.10, also known as Jammy Jellyfish, include various enhancements carried over from the previous version:

  • Support for Linux kernel version 6.5 (based on Linux kernel 5.15 in Ubuntu 22.04).
  • Updates to the graphics stack, including Mesa 23.1.7, with new versions of drivers for Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA GPUs.
  • Updates to packages such as DPDK 11.11.4, Cloud-Init 23.3.3, and OpenVSWITCH 2.17.8.
  • Introduction of ARM server architecture support with Linux kernel compiled for 64-kilobyte memory pages.

For desktop installations, new kernel and graphics stack versions are included by default, while for server systems, the new kernel is available as an option during installation. Existing installations can receive these updates through the standard update installation process.

Updates to the Linux kernel and graphics stack in Ubuntu follow a rolling model of support, where each label is supported until the next LTS corrective update. The Linux 6.5 kernel in this release will be supported until Ubuntu 22.04.5, while the base 5.15 kernel will be supported throughout the full five-year support cycle.

To roll back to the Linux 5.15 kernel in Ubuntu Desktop, the following command can be executed:

Sudo apt install –install-recommends linux-generic

To install the new kernel in Ubuntu Server, the following command should be run:
