Lightweight Antix 23.1 Distribution Released

Antix has published the Libeen Live-Distribution Antix 23.1, which is built on the Debian package base and targeted at installing outdated equipment. This release is based on the Debian 12 package base, excluding the Systemd system manager and using EuDEV instead of UDEV for initialization. Users can choose to use Runit or Sysvinit for initialization. The default user environment is set with the IceWM window manager, with additional options like Fluxbox, JWM, and Herbstluftwm included. The ISO images are available in different sizes, including 1.7 GB (complete with Libreoffice and 4 window managers), 1.1 GB (base), 531 MB (without graphics), and 613 MB (network installation) for architectures x86_64 and i386.

In the new release:

  • Synchronization with the Debian 12 package base (Bookworm) with Linux 6.1.60 core (full assembly) and 10.10.197 in other assemblies.
  • Updated applications such as Libreoffice 24.2.0, Firefox 115.8.0, and Seamonkey 2.53.18.1.
  • Added Antix TV and Antix Radio applications for streaming TV and listening to Internet radio using MPV.
  • Added Finder script for searching files, installed programs, and other information.
  • Added Antix Samba Manager to manage Samba shared sections.
  • Added Antix Equaliser button to control the EasyEffects equalizer in Pipewire.
  • Added Antix Acoustic Colours configurator to adjust sound tones.
  • Includes the meld utility for file comparison and merging.

Composition:

  • Default user environment with IceWM window manager and ZZZFM file manager.
  • Full editions include Pipewire multimedia server and WirePlumber sound manager (ALSA in other editions).
  • Multimedia playback with XMMS.
  • Video viewing with Celluloid and MPV.
  • Image viewing with Mirage.
  • YouTube viewing without a browser using smtube.
  • Internet radio listening with Streamtuner2.
