Developers of Kubuntu Linux recently announced their plans to adopt the Calamares installer for their distribution. The Calamares installer is designed to be compatible with various Linux distributions and features a user-friendly interface created using the QT library. By adopting Calamares, Kubuntu aims to provide a unified and visually appealing installation experience for users within the KDE ecosystem.
Prior to Kubuntu, the lubuntu and ubuntudde distributions had already transitioned to using the Calamares installer. This move is part of the ongoing efforts by the Kubuntu project to improve and update their installer. Additionally, the developers are working towards releasing the spring version of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS, which will be the final release based on KDE 5. They are also commencing the development of the test version with KDE 6, which will serve as the groundwork for the autumn release of Kubuntu 24.10.
This initiative is a significant step forward for Kubuntu as it embraces a more user-friendly installation process and prepares for the transition to the latest version of the KDE desktop environment. With these updates, Kubuntu aims to enhance the overall user experience and solidify its position as a leading Linux distribution within the KDE community.
