Distribution of KAOS 2024.01 with KDE Plasma 6-RC2 Released

kaos 2024.01: A Fresh KDE-Based Desktop Distribution

Kaos, a distribution with a continuous update model aimed at providing a desktop based on fresh KDE issues and applications using QT, has recently published its 2024.01 issue on their website. One of the notable design features of this distribution is the placement of the vertical panel on the right side of the screen. While the distribution aligns closely with Arch Linux, it maintains its own independent repository with over 1,500 packages and offers a range of its own graphic utilities. The default file system used in Kaos is XFS. The assembly for systems x86_64 is available for download, with a size of 3.3 GB from SourceForge.

Features of kaos:

  • On systems with UEFI, Systemd-boot is involved for loading.
  • An ISOWRITER interface is provided for recording ISO files on USB-disk, supporting verification of the correctly recorded images.
  • LibreOffice, assembled with the KF5 and QT5 VC Plagins, is involved by default instead of Calligra. This allows the use of native KDE and QT dialogs, buttons, framing windows, and widgets.
  • A score of the entrance to the Croeso system is proposed, providing main configuration options to be changed after installation, as well as allowing the installation of applications and viewing information about the distribution and system. You can find a screenshot of the interface here.
