In front of humanity, there are a number of challenges on the way to the creation of a colony on Mars, but one of the key problems is associated with the psychological support of future colonists. At the CES 2024 exhibition, French startup Coreod Space presented vr-spaces of Space Agent Traveler (SAT) who, with the help of AI, will provide psychological assistance to astronauts in space and people in other extreme conditions.
CEO and co-founder Coreod Space, Eliz Zhabes, claims that Sat VR will function “as an additional crew member”, providing continuous support during heavy space missions.
Using existing technologies, the flight to Mars will take about seven months, and the crew that has arrived on the Red Planet will be physically exhausted. Zhabes, who has experience in the work of a psychologist in extreme conditions on Earth, emphasizes the importance of psychological support in space.
“In existing support systems, there was not enough continuous psychological assistance before, on time and after space missions,” she explained.
Based on 10-year-old neuropsychological studies in the Larnas laboratory, Coreod Space has developed SAT software, which will provide comprehensive psychological support in long-term missions to the Moon and Mars.
The choice of VR as a technological platform instead of a regular mobile application is a conscious and purposeful solution,” continued Zhabes. “Virtual reality can provide a much deeper immersion level than a simple application on a smartphone or tablet.
Deep immersion is critically important for the effective psychological support of users, especially taking into account the specific conditions of space space. The helmet offers specialized 15-minute VR protocols aimed at solving specific problems, such as stress, sleep and adaptation to changes, which allows astronauts to maintain a high level of performance during missions.
Eliz Zhabes also affected the important topic of using artificial intelligence in psychology, especially in the context of supporting astronauts in distant space. She is sure that AI can significantly improve the quality of psychological support, offering personalized recommendations and assistance in the recognition of patterns.
“AI is able to provide continuous and instant support in situations where ordinary access to psychological assistance is limited or unavailable,” says Zhabes.
Coreod Space also plans to adapt the SAT platform for use in other
