Damn Small Linux 2024 – A Distribution Release for Low-Power Systems
After 12 years since the last test version and 16 years after the formation of the past stable release, the distribution release of Damall Linux 2024 designed for use on low-power systems and outdated equipment has been announced. The new release has the quality of alpha versions and can be downloaded in the I386 architecture fees. The size of the loading assembly is 665 MB (for comparison, the previous version had a size of 50 MB).
The assembly was created on the basis of the Antix 23 Live District, which in turn was built on the Debian package base. The aim of reviving Damn Small Linux was to provide a compact live distribution for outdated systems, fitting on CDs (less than 700 MB), and offering a graphical and console environment suitable for work. Users are given the choice of environments based on the window managers Fluxbox and JWM. Additionally, the distribution includes three web browsers: badwolf, dillo, and links2.
The set of office applications in Damn Small Linux 2024 includes the text editor abiword, the spreadsheet processor Gnumeric, the email client sylpheed, and the PDF viewer Zathura. For multimedia content, the distribution includes mpv and xmms.
