Tails has announced the release of their specialized distribution, Tails 5.22, which is designed for anonymous internet access. Tails, also known as The Amnesic Incognito Live System, is based on the Debian package base and utilizes the Tor system for anonymous connectivity. By default, all non-Tor network connections are blocked through the use of a packet filter. User data is encrypted for storage between launches.
The ISO-image of Tails 5.22, which is available for download in Live-mode, requires 1 GB of storage. This new version of Tails introduces several updates and improvements:
- Tor Browser now allows users to save files to directories such as Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Videos. Users can also transfer files from these directories.
- If the permanent storage is damaged, the new version includes an attempt to restore the file system after unlocking the screen at system entry.
- When cloning the permanent storage, the recording speed is now guaranteed.
- Attempts to unlock or remove the permanent storage on USB carriers are limited to reading mode.
- Tor Browser has been updated to version 13.0.9 and Thunderbird has been updated to version 115.7.
