A year has passed since the last release of the Redcore Linux 2401 distribution, which aims to combine the functionality of Gentoo with convenience for ordinary users. Redcore Linux provides a simple installer that allows users to quickly deploy the working system without the need for assembling components from original texts. Users are provided with a repository of ready-made binary packets that are continuously updated (Rolling model). To manage packages, Redcore Linux uses its own package manager called Sisyphus. An ISO-MACE with the KDE desktop, 4.5 GB (x86_64) is proposed for installation. In the new version, the following updates have been made:
- Synchronization with the Gentoo Testing tree as of January 21.
- For installation, packages with the Linux 6.6 core (by default), 6.1, and 5.15 are offered.
- The components of the graphic stack, including Mesa, Xorg, Xwayland, and Wayland, have been updated to their latest versions.
- Updated versions of various packages, including Glibc 2.37, GCC 13.2.0, Binutils 2.40, Clang/LLVM 17.0.6, and Rust 1.74.1.
- Pipewire, a multimedia server, is now used for sound control instead of Pulseaudio.
- The transition to Opensl 3 and FFMPEG 6 has been implemented.
- The Landlock protection mechanism, which limits the interaction of processes with the external environment, is now included by default.
- The Sisyphus package manager has been rewritten, with the front-end now being completely separated. It now provides recommendations with similar correct names when an incorrect package name is specified. Additionally, the ability to install packages without their obvious notes being installed has been added. The correct setting exchange between Sisyphus and Portage has also been implemented.
