The release of a specialized distribution Tails 6.14.1 (The amnesic Incognito Live System), developed as part of the Tor project, has been announced. This distribution, based on the DEBIAN 12 package base and featuring the GNOME 43 desktop, is designed for anonymous internet browsing using Tor tools. By default, all connections except traffic through the Tor network are blocked by the packet filter. User data is encrypted for storage between sessions. The prepared ISO-image for live mode use is available for download and requires 1 GB of storage.
Version 6.14.1 was released in place of 6.14 due to a significant issue identified during initial testing of the new branch. The release includes updates to the Tor Browser, now at version 14.0.9, and the TOR package updated to version 0.4.8.16. The Tor Browser interface now features buttons for minimizing and expanding the window.
An apparmor profile has been updated to enhance protection of vulnerabilities in the Tor Browser. Previously, the browser had access restrictions limited to specific directories and write capabilities restricted to save uploaded files directory. In the new version, restrictions in the Apparmor profile for Tor Browser have been lifted, and the xdg-desktop-portal package used in Flatpak has been introduced to enable controlled selective file access outside the isolated environment. This change allows safe access to subdirectories in the home directory and persistent storage.
