The distribution Parrot 6.0, based on the Debian package base and equipped with a range of security tools, has been released. Parrot 6.0 is designed for security experts and forensics professionals and includes tools for system security checking, forensic analysis, and reverse engineering. The distribution offers several ISO images with the MATE environment, suitable for everyday use, security testing, installation on RASPBERRY PIP boards, and creating specialized installations for cloud environments. To download Parrot 6.0, visit the official website’s download page.
The main focus of the Parrot distribution is on checking cloud systems and Internet-connected devices. It also includes cryptographic tools and security programs like TOR, I2P, Anonsurf, GPG, and more. Parrot 6.0 has transitioned to the DEBIAN 12 package base and updated the Linux kernel to version 6.5, which includes patches to enhance sniffing capabilities, network package substitution, and other technologies related to information security.
In addition to the kernel and package base updates, Parrot 6.0 includes dkms modules for the 6.5 kernel, providing additional drivers for wireless cards and expanded traffic analysis capabilities. The distribution also brings updated NVIDIA drivers and numerous specialized utilities. Python 3.11 is now the default version used. The graphic interface has been modernized, and Parrot 6.0 introduces an experimental feature to launch utilities incompatible with the distribution in separate isolated containers.
Other notable updates in Parrot 6.0 include the addition of a recovery mode to the GRUB bootloader, an updated installer based on the Calamares framework, and the transition from Pulseaudio to the Pipewire multimedia server for the distribution’s sound system. The distribution’s support for Raspberry Pi has also been expanded with added support for Raspberry Pi 5.
In a separate development, Gnoppix Linux 24.1.15 has also been released. Gnoppix is a distribution focused on working in Live security research environments while maintaining confidentiality and leaving no traces in the system. It is based on Debian and incorporates achievements from the Kali Linux project. Gnoppix 24.1.15 is available for download for x86_64 and i386 architectures.
