Chrome OS 120 Released

The release of the Chrome OS 120 operating system, based on the Linux core, UPSTART system manager, EBUILD/PORTAGE assembly, and open components of Chrome 120, is now available. Chrome OS is designed with a limited web browser environment, using web applications instead of standard programs. Despite this, Chrome OS includes a fully functional multi-window interface, desktop, and taskbar. Source texts are distributed under the free Apache 2.0 license. Chrome OS 120 is available for most Chromebook models. For use on regular computers, Chrome OS Flex should be utilized.

The main changes in Chrome OS 120 include:

  • Added the “Nearby Share Self Share” function, which allows users to exchange files between multiple devices associated with the same user account. Automatic data reception is confirmed on all Android or Chrome OS devices, even if the device screen is disconnected.
  • The panel now has a new Virtual Desk button for quick switching between virtual desktops. Users can also create new desktops and visually assess the contents of each desktop and group them.

  • Users can now move images with their mouse from the region with a notification of screen capture or from a notification indicating completion of a download.
