Twelve departments of Ile-de-France and the neighboring regions are placed in orange alert, Monday, September 5, due to “risks of locally violent gusts” while the Hérault and the Gard will be on alert during the Night for possible stationary thunderstorms, announced weather-france .
“In the middle of the afternoon, a stormy line is expected, which will be formed towards Center-Val-de-Loire, to quickly go up and circulate towards Ile-de-France then the Hauts-de France “, says the Météo-France bulletin on the occasion of this” storm episode at the end of summer “. “These thunderstorms will give temporary precipitation marked between 10 and 20 mm, or even 40 mm in places, hail and significant electrical activity”, specifies the meteorological service.
“It is above all the risk of locally violent gusts which requires particular vigilance”, he specifies. “The gusts, the most marked are planned to give 80 to 110 km/h at point.”
The eight departments of Ile-de-France as well as Aisne, Oise, Cher and Loiret are affected by this vigilance. In the south, Hérault and Gard will be on orange vigilance from 3 am during the night from Monday to Tuesday. “We expect stormy cells that can give between 50 and 80 mm in a short time. On the episode, the strongest values can reach in places between 70 and 100 mm, locally between 120 and 150 mm, or even more in a point. “
Risk of brutal floods
These extreme precipitation volumes can, especially if they are very localized, lead to brutal floods. The main rivers of the two departments are placed in yellow vigilance, given a “risk of rapid rise under thunderstorm”, but “no overflow is expected”, according to Vigicrues.
Regarding thunderstorms, “uncertainty is marked in terms of chronology or location”, warns Météo-France. “However, the risk of stationarity is very marked”, and “it therefore requires treating it in orange level”. “The continuation of this episode is possible in the following night, from Tuesday to Wednesday, even for Wednesday day,” concludes Météo-France.
Most of the metropolis, with the exception of the south-east and the Atlantic coast, is placed in yellow vigilance, and “punctually virulent storms are not to be excluded”.
