French Caroline Garcia, world 17th, qualified for her first quarter-final at the US Open on Sunday by defeating the American Alison Riske (29th) 6-4, 6-1.
At 28 years old, the French number one which had never exceeded the third round of the New York Major, thus equal its best result in a Grand Chelem tournament, having played the quarter-finals in Roland-Garros in 2017 .
She will try to do even better Tuesday September 6 against the American Coco Gauff (12th), finalist of the last Roland Garros, or the Chinese Shuai Zhang (36th).
